Mont-Roig del Camp Town Hall, Tarragona
The new building owes its form to its twofold function: a white plinth houses the administrative department, easily accessible to local residents, laid out around a series of patios which organize the space into functional pockets, and a transparent high-rise block accommodates the council premises, an emblem of the symbolic and representative nature of local government.
The building picks up features of popular architecture such as the courtyard, the fountain and the thick white rendering on the ground floor, and contrasts them with the concrete and glass of the high-rise block, symbols of modernity that can be seen from the coast.
